The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expanding a recall on Pecorino Romano cheese that was first initiated due to listeria contamination.

Federal officials have escalated a recall of grated Pecorino Romano cheese after finding possible listeria contamination.

The cheese, produced by the Ambriola Company, could be contaminated with listeria, a bacterium that can cause serious illness in some people, said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration report.
